Espanyol's first colors were yellow and black. According to Ángel Rodríguez himself, "one of our members was a textile manufacturer and, to make the kits, he gave us some yellow fabric." The newspaper La Veu de Catalunya , in its November 26, 1900 edition, provided a bit more detail about the "Canary" kit: "it sported its yellow and black uniform, completed with a beret ." The first known photograph of the Club was taken at the end of that same year, in front of the nascent Sagrada Familia .
